Success is relative, which simply means that each person has their own definition or idea of what success looks like.
If you were to go around asking any successful individual how to be successful, whether it be your local church pastor, your favourite author, a reputable business person or even your favourite blogger, they will all tell you the same thing – there is no set recipe to success.
As a “Girl Boss” in the making, I have found myself having to through trial, error and tough lessons learnt create my own so called “recipe to success”.
There are many different elements that aid in a person becoming who they are intended and called to be.
Here are 5 of the many things I have been tapping into on the road to becoming a “Girl Boss”:
1. WINNING ATTITUDE
The key to any success story is a good mind set.
Cory Booker says, “The right attitude can transform a barrier into a blessing, an obstacle into an opportunity or a stumbling block into a stepping stone.“
I am a firm believer in speaking dreams, visions and plans into existence.
When you proclaim something positive, productive and prosperous into your life or the lives of others it manifests.
In order to be the best you, the awe inspiring “Girl Boss”, you have to believe it first.
Organizational skills may not be everyone’s forte, which is why it is important to make use of a method that works best for you.
Whether it be a diary, planner, calendar, notebook, or even sticking post-it’s in every corner of your house – make sure you are able to keep track of your daily tasks, meetings and important dates and times.
Being able to tick completed tasks off a list gives you a sense of accomplishment and makes it able for you to move onto to the next task without stressing yourself out about unfinished tasks.
3. WATER BOTTLE
Hydration is vital for your physical and mental well-being.
Drinking enough water not only keeps you hydrated but helps energize your muscles which gives you the capacity to effectively go about your everyday business.
It can help control how much you eat in day, especially when it comes to unhealthy cravings and habits.
Whenever you crave something that may not be good for your body or is outside of your normal eating schedule (breakfast, lunch, supper + snacks in between), take a few sips of water and see how that craving starts to disappear.
Carrying a water bottle makes drinking water regularly easier and convenient.
Yes, you will frequent the ladies room, which to many who are always on the go or in and out meetings may not be ideal, but over time your body adapts to it.
4. RELIABLE MODE OF TRANSPORT
The road to success is never easy, we’ve heard that saying time and time again.
It is, however, navigated much simpler when one is on time for scheduled meetings, able to make last minute coffee catch ups and do not have the constant tug in the heart when things come up and you aren’t able to make it.
A reliable and convenient mode of transport for you may be in the form of a bus, taxi, Uber/Taxify or your own personal car.
Having a reliable mode of transportation ensures that you are able to stay on top of each and every item on your task list that requires leaving the office/workspace.
Tardiness, without reason, is a sign of bad manners as well as a reflection of mismanaged time.
Maybe you don’t have a car and your current financial situation doesn’t always allow for you to make use of alternative forms of transport such as Uber or Taxify – why not try carpool with a colleague or friend? Set up a family Uber plan and alternate on payments each month? Or even put aside a hundred rand or two each week or month (depending on your financials) till you are able to look at possibly putting a deposit down on a vehicle.
5. BOLD BLAZER
Nothing says “Girl Boss” like a well fitted, bold blazer.
A good blazer can elevate any look and give you that extra edge needed to command a room.
Not to mention boost of confidence it gives you when you get that double look moment as you pass a mirror.
A classic black blazer is ever so timeless, but why not try a splash colour – clean crisp white, classy beige, sexy red, or even bright pink.
As I always like to say – be bold, be brave, be beautiful!
It is immensely important to always do what works best for you
& tap into all that God has tailor made for your life and future going forward.
Onwards and upwards!
