My love for food runs much deeper than my wallet would like (I’m sure many share this sentiment) but I will never let that get between my stomach’s desire to experience the best cuisine our beautiful country has to offer.
Nelson Mandela Bay has seen its restaurant culture boom in these past few years, with an addition of many hotspots that have won the hearts of many gourmands.
One of those, located deep in the heart of the bay, is Heritage Café.
Many people ask what it is about Heritage that I love so much and the answer is simple: family.
It is incredibly heart-warming to walk into an establishment and feel at home.
One is warmly greeted by owners, Willie and Anita Boucher, as you are further welcomed by beautiful waitress Leigh into a delightfully quaint coffee shop.
There is definitely no shortage of coffee (+ non-caffeinated beverages), sweet treats supplied by Natassja of Eat Cake Confectionery and of course, the delectable all day breakfast and brunch menu.
Esteemed Chef Gustav alongside sous Chef Emmanuel whip up the most tantalizing dishes.
Should I not be having my usual, Creamy Scrambled Eggs and Bacon on Sourdough, you’ll find me ravaging the Heritage Cheese Burger & Fries donned with a homemade sauce to die for!
On a recent celebratory lunch with friends, I was introduced to the Avocado & Harissa on Toast – I was beyond intrigued to say the least.
Mostly because I had never had a poached egg before; on the other hand the dish looked way too beautiful to eat.
As part owner Anita is a vegan herself, it is only fitting that there are some vegan options on the menu, as well as vegan treats for those with a bit of a sweet tooth.
With a little something for everyone, I must say Heritage is the perfect spot for all people from different walks of life, looking for a slice of “heaven”.
