What Went Down at My First #ECMeetUp

A creative storm hit the friendly city as bloggers, influencers, brands and businesses gathered at the ever so beautiful  Fairview Racecourse for the 5th EC Meet Up hosted by Eleanor Douglas Meyers and Luchae Williams.

As it was my first, the anticipation and nerves were real.

As nervous as I get before every event I go to, I understand the importance of networking and connecting with likeminded individuals or those who may have opposing views who can teach me a thing or two. Besides, nerves are good – shows a great deal of care you have for the said event.

“When you have butterflies and you’re feeling anxious or nervous, that’s when you’re most powerful.”
– Jon Jones

Is it strange to live in a city for almost two decades and not having known there was a stunning racecourse just a few kilometres away from my area?
As ashamed as I am to admit that I am that person, I am much happier now to have finally been able to experience ‘a trip to the races’ – and what a trip it was!
With its regal & elegant feel, The Fairview Racecourse was the perfect venue to host this prestigious event.

Lyle Scritten and Kirsten Litsen from one of Africa’s leading travel agencies, Travelstart, opened our eyes and minds to the growing field of Affiliate Marketing as they introduced us to the agency’s affiliate program.

“Pitch a campaign idea to a brand. Make sure the brand knows what they will get out of it – make it a win-win situation.”
– Lyle Scritten

In conversation with him prior to his talk, Lyle spoke to me about travel within one’s city – something I had never given thought to.
It is important to note that travel blogging is not necessarily about chasing flights and free hotel stays.
We live in a magnificent coastal city with an array of spaces, places and faces – why not start here?

Give that some thought.

Megan Kelly Botha gave us an incredibly insightful journey through the ins and outs of the life of a blogger. Having been in the industry for about 5 years, she detailed some tips and tricks ranging from Establishing and Maintaining Relationships with Brands, Pitching Brands on Campaigns, Approaching Brands and Reaching out to Brands.
As someone who has admired her work for quite some time, it was nice to get to put a face to the name – so to speak.

Oh but how can we forget the food?

Annelie Oosthuizen and her Petronella Fine Dining & Catering team served up a gorgeous high tea buffet that honestly looked too breath-taking to eat.
BUT of course my foodie self couldn’t resist and boy were my taste buds blown away!

I must commend Eleanor and Luchae for shining such a beautifully bright light in the blogging community. Being able to bring people from different walks of life together for one common goal, to celebrate the art of creativity, is incredible.
