Style or being deemed “stylish” [to me] is the complete mental acceptance of who you are and what you stand for that translates from within without.
Recently I was picked as one of The Stylista Top 5, which was a real highlight to my month – both because I am an avid Stylista App user and also who doesn’t love a shopping spree?
I was tasked to style a look with pieces purchased from any one of The Foschini Group stores – Foschini, Exact!, The Fix, Duesouth, Sportscene, Totalsports, @Home, Markham, Fabiani.
I won’t lie, I was a little nervous because I don’t regularly do my shopping from most of the TFG stores – but of course I love stepping out of my style comfort zone.
Upon window shopping at some of the stores, just to get a look and feel of the different types of clothes etc, I decided to purchase my entire outfit at The Fix.
The Fix seemed to be more in my style lane but also had a few pieces that swerved out of that a little.
For this outfit, I opted for a beautiful black mesh bell sleeved top as the focal point of the ensemble. Bell sleeves have been big in many of the SS17 collections and between you and me, they’re timeless.
I paired this mesh top with a red velvet mini dress as not only a contrast of textures, but as an alternative to wearing the usual bandeau or bralette underneath the mesh top as it is sheer.
For bottoms, I had been grappling with the idea of going for either denims or a body con midi skirt.
After taking a deep think about how my wardrobe is set up, practicality and staying true to my style – I opted for light blue denims, that have floral embroidered details along the ankles and pocket area.
To complement the embroidery, I had to get royal blue embroidered slide loafers with blush and red accents.
To finish off the look, I accessorized with bold red tassled earrings from [my mother] Klaasified Crafts & Accessories.
What I love about these pieces individually is their versatility and practicality. All of these pieces either together or separate could be styled in ways that could suit casual, university, or even formal looks.
